Leinster Champs 2017 report

The 2017 Leinster Orienteering Championships were run by GEN on Brockagh east and Mall Hill on 9th April 2017. This area is no stranger to championship events with the IOC run there in 2011. There were mixed fortunes among the 10 Setanta Members who ran in championship classes. In good weather, the courses proved physically and technically challenging, as they should for a championship.

Maura Higgins and Angus Tyner claimed first in W70 and M45 respectively. Also claiming podium positions were Melanie Walsh and Tivon Tyner with 3rd position in W45 & M12 respectively. Notable mentions to Dave Weston (M50), Alastair Yarrow (M70) and Paul Keville (M21E) who all finished just off the podium in 4th. In fact Paul’s 4th position in completing the 15km elite course was the best mens result in the elite class by a Setanta member for a very long time.
