About Us
Nearly 40 years later the core membership of Setanta Orienteers is mainly south Dublin and Wicklow, with some members from other parts of Ireland and overseas. The membership is currently around 50-60 made up of families and individuals.
Our main interest is obviously in the sport of orienteering and we are always well represented at the major events here in Ireland as well as events abroad. The club itself organises many events each year including Leinster League events, night events, Mountain bike orienteering, local events and the Rogaine Ireland each summer. Social events are also catered for, with the Club Champs and Wine & Choc O (club members only) and annual mountain walk just after Christmas. Besides orienteering we are also well represented in other adventure sports like mountain running, mountain marathons, adventure races, and other related sports.
Setanta Orienteers have hosted many major events. Apart from the annual Rogaine Ireland which commenced in 1997, Setanta Orienteers have organised the Leinster Championships in 1997, 2001, 2004, 2008 & 2015 and more before 1997.
The main recent achievement of the club was hosting the Irish Championships in 2014. 3 events over 3 days during the May bank holiday weekend. This was the first time to host the IOC, though the 2001 Irish Championships was amalgamated with the Leinster Championships in 2001, due to the scheduled IOC being cancelled due to the foot & mouth outbreak.
Club members receive great subsidies on SI-cards, O gear such as tops, bottoms, gaiters and softshell jacket. Members are also entitled to discounts on event entries and entry to regional and national championships.
To keep in touch with each other we have our own electronic mail group and/or via the Facebook group.
Club membership is only €15 for individuals or €20 for a family or couple
