Hi All

Unfortunately we are not in a position to run our annual wine and chocolate orienteering event that was scheduled for this weekend. We will also not be staging our Christmas Walk on the 28th of this month either. Both these cancelations are due to the ongoing pandemic and associated restrictions. Sadly, I doubt if these cancellations are a surprise to anyone.

We wish you all a happy and safe Christmas, and here’s looking forward to next year with optimism.

Club Committee…

Due to the ongoing pandemic our scheduled events at Cushbawn on 18th October and at Hellfire Woods on 15th November are cancelled. We still have our annual wine and chocolates orienteering and the Christmas walk for the 12th and 28th December respectively. We live in hope.

Dear Member,

The AGM will be held next Monday evening at 8pm. Due to current restrictions, the meeting will be an on-line Zoom meeting. Details on how to join will be sent out later this week, along with copies of the Officers reports. It is a shame that we are unable to run the AGM as we have done for the past number of years, on the same day as the Club Champs and social gathering …

To all Setanta Club Members:

The annual Club Championships will take place this Saturday, 12th September with starts from 3:00pm to 3:30pm.

The start location will be the ‘middle’ Djouce Car Park, its location will be marked with a control flag.

2 courses will be offered, a Medium of c. 4 k, and a Short of c. 2.5k.

Hopefully we will see you there.

As most of you know orienteering has recommenced after the lockdown with some park events over the last couple of weeks. Pretty much all are pre-entry now. It was good to see some Setanta faces taking part. Leinster League and provincial championships are scheduled from September onwards, so there is lots to look forward to. The Leinster Champs is already taking entries. Details are on the IOA fixture list. Obviously things are subject to change, so keep an eye out for any cancellations or alterations.

This Saturday 22/02/2020 Setanta Orienteers are holding a night orienteering event at Massy’s woods. The event will be signposted from Stocking Lane.

Start times are between 6:15pm-7:30pm.

This is an over 16s event. Anyone under that age wishing to take part must do so accompanied by an adult at all times.

There will be two courses on offer

Long – 3.3km 140 metres 14 controls

Short – 2.2km 90 metres 11 controls.

Cost of entry

Seniors – €7

Students/OAP’s – €5

Setanta Orienteers will be running a local come-and-try-it event at Djouce Woods this coming Sunday 16th February. All welcome. Start times are between 11am and 1pm with courses closing at 2:30pm. The event will be in the main forest car park and will be signposted on the R755 leaving Kilmcanogue.

There will be four courses on offer as follows
Long 6.3km 270m climb
Medium 4.4km 200m climb
Short (tech) 2.0km 80m climb
Short (easy) 2.0km 50m climb

We are rescheduling the wine and choc O event to Sunday 5th January. The start will be at the middle car park of Djouce Woods at 2:30pm. Prizes of chocolates and bottles of wine at each control. Bring the whole family as it’s always a great occasion. Refreshment and finger food is organised in a local hostelry afterwards and we hope to see all club members there too.
The kings brought the gifts on the twelfth day of Christmas, so we’re only one day out!…
